20 years ago, there was no such job as a personal trainer, imagine it. A job in where you got to play in the gym all day! Crazy, right?

I can’t really call it a job, it’s more of a hobby I’m lucky enough to be paid for! Over 50 years ago my grandad became MR Great Britain and MR universe, I remember playing in his weight room as a kid. There was really only one route I was ever going to go down!

So, with many of my other posts being about how to train and many of my beliefs as a trainer. I thought I’d try something different with this post.

I’ve recently started the ball rolling to become a tutor for the East Midlands fitness academy. What this means is, I now get the amazing job of passing along some of my knowledge and experience to up and coming PTs.

In light of this new job role I wanted to get a bit philosophical and talk about why I believe I have chosen one of the most rewarding career paths available.

When I first became a personal trainer, all I was interested in was high-level performance. I was finishing with motocross racing and I was going to train some of the best professionals in the country (which I still do in case you are wondering) now this is fine, but as my client base grew; I was getting a massive variety of clientele through the door. Meeting some amazing people along the way.

In my opinion, a trainer that turns his nose up at the general public is not one I want to associate with. They may just need a quick point in the right direction, as any decent trainer will tell you; if you work with the general public you will learn so much about movement, you will almost always learn something that you can put towards your athletes!

The money isn’t half bad, but really that’s not what this career is about! When it really boils down to it, the most rewarding part of the job is supporting someone every step towards their goal!

In 2015, I took an athlete to an AMCA national championship, which was a pretty proud moment for us all. However, I can honestly say I’m just as proud of my weight loss client that last week has hit her 20lb of total weight loss goal!

So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of my clients, whether they are a pro athlete or an average Joe each one is important and helped develop me into the trainer I am.

Although there is hard work involved, I would highly recommend a job as a PT the rewards are endless and the industry is ever growing.
