So yesterday I was fortunate enough to help provide sports massage and taping support, to some of the biggest; strongest men in the world!
This was made possible by the good people at the Sports Massage Academy in Nottingham. (As a side note if you are interested in studying sports massage therapy, it’d definitely be worth checking them out! Click here for a link to their website.)
There’s something quite strange about giving someone an arm massage over the muscle mass you would expect to find on a leg!
The list of benefits for event massage, pre, post and inter; is ever growing. It can:
- Enhance blood flow and neural stimulus to an area.
- Remove waste products from an area, such as lactic acid, which can even delay fatigue.
- Provide mobility to a restricted part of the body which could lead to injury prevention.
- Finally, depending which techniques are used, it can relax the athlete and calm nerves.
It was a fantastic event and I can’t wait to watch it later this year when it airs at Christmas time (I know it’s ages to wait). I was lucky enough to see a world record smashed, and to see the hometown heroes come away with the win!
Well done to all the organisers and people involved, it may have run over but it was worth it!
